China’s one-child policy has rendered an entire generation of males unable to find wives.

More than three decades after China implemented the one-child policy, aimed at controlling its population, the country is facing a glaring gender imbalance.
The ratio of male to female births has increased significantly, as a result of the nation’s traditional cultural preference for boys. Chinese couples are paying $20 to detect the sex of their unborn child, and selectively aborting female fetuses, despite laws preventing such practice.
