Property giant Emaar is being sued for millions by a former Springs resident.
UAE newspaper 7 Days reports that the developer has dismissed claims it breached the human rights of public relations consultant Lionel Lombard.
Lombard, from New Orleans, is suing the company from California on the grounds of alleged racial discrimination, harassment and violations of his human rights between 2005 and 2010. Lombard was formerly a partner in a Dubai public relations firm and resident of the Springs. According to the suit he complained about apartheid and treatment of foreign workers at the flagship property. The suit alleges he was subsequently harassed by Emaar security guards because of his stance, and later imprisoned for two years in Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
A spokesman for Emaar told the paper, “The allegations are baseless and the company does not wish to comment.” According to 7 Days, the lawsuit is worth AED 224 million.
