Eyjafjallajokull – The Musical

One Icelandic singer is helping the public see the lighter side of the ash cloud with her musical introduction to proper pronunciation of Iceland’s volcano.

Journalists, television announcers, and media personnel everywhere are frustrated and embarrassed in attempts to spell, and worse – pronounce – the name of the Icelandic volcano at the center of the most massive air travel disruption in history.

Icelandic singer Eliza Geirsdottir Newman explains that the glacier name, ‘Eyjafjallajokull,’ is composed of the three words for island, mountain, and glacier, put together into a single name. Her song tells the rest of the story – feel free to sing along (FYI: it’s ‘ay-uh-fyat-luh-yoe-kuutl-ul’).
