As Ireland struggles under the weight of its debts, young people feel they have little choice but to move abroad in search of jobs. According to the Irish Economic and Social Research Institute, 70,000 people will leave the country this year, with a further 50,000 going in 2011 – a major blow to the country’s long term competitiveness. And what’s more it’s a waste – the country has provided an education to them and gets nothing in return.
