Classified US military footage showing the killing of more than a dozen civilians in Baghdad in July 2007 was released yesterday.
The video, released by the whistleblower website WikiLeaks, shows US forces repeatedly firing on a group of civilians and then on a van that stopped to rescue one of the wounded. Two Iraqi journalists were among the fatalities.
For two years, the pentagon has refused to release the video. WikiLeaks said that it published the video to prove that the helicopters weren’t under fire or acting in self defense.
