Abu Dhabi destroys more than 11,000 counterfeit goods
The UAE capital is planning a much campaign against counterfeit goods in the second half of the year.

The Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development has destroyed a huge batch of counterfeit products, the Gulf News reports.
The total number of products destroyed was 11,263, says the paper, which included 5,129 electrical and electronic products and phones, 3,022 items of clothing, 2,710 items of cosmetics, and over 400 tobacco products.
Ahmad Taresh Obaid Al Qubaisi, director of commercial protection, told the paper: “This batch is the beginning of a series of operations we are planning to conduct during 2010, to eradicate this malpractice … as well as to preserve the pleasant look of the emirate by putting an end to the phenomenon of street vendors.”
