Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Federal National Council (FNC) Affairs and Chairman of the National Election Committee, has stressed the importance of consolidated efforts to make sure that the upcoming elections to the FNC reflects UAE leadership’s vision to advance political participation and the FNC experience.

Presiding over the fourth meeting of the National Election Committee (NEC), Gargash said that the directive of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan expanding the electoral college will enrich the political environment in the country.

Gargash said:” We are confident that increasing the number of electoral colleges will promote political participation. It reflects the spirit of the political programme of UAE and we expect that the electoral colleges will bring in more expertise, representing the significant evolution of the UAE society. The latest developments in the region validate the wise approach adopted by the UAE leadership to make sure that change is in perfect harmony with progress.”

The NEC meeting, held at the Presidential Palace, reviewed the preparations, budget and timeline for the elections and the formation of electoral sub-committees in different emirates.

Gargash explained the importance of ensuring a smooth and exemplary election process that reflects the progress the UAE has achieved in various spheres.

“We are about to experience an election process with added value in terms of quality and participation. With a successful FNC experience behind us and a National Election Committee of competent people we are capable of managing the elections effectively and efficiently,” added Gargash.

Gargash mentioned that the NEC has made great strides in the preparation of elections in many areas such as administration and technical and coordination with relevant authorities to see that the voting takes place without any glitches on September 24th 2004.

The Committee discussed all logistical details and requirements of the elections, from the preparatory stage to the actual polling, to ensure all resources including well-trained personnel are available for the successful conduct of the nationwide process.

The National Election Committee comprises Dr. Hadef Jua’an Al Daheri, Minister of Justice; Humaid Mohammad Al Qutami, Minister of Education, and Abdul Rahman Mohammad Al Owais, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development.

Other members in the panel include Ahmad Mohammad Al Humairi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs; Najla Mohammad Al Awar, Secretary General of Council of Ministers; Abdullah Humaid Al Mazroui, Khalfan Mohammad Al Roumi, Abdul Rahman Al Douda Al Amiri, Tareq Hilal Lootah, Undersecretary at the Ministry of FNC Affairs;  Dr. Ali Mohammad Al Khouri, Director General of the Emirates Identity Authority and Dr. Saeed Mohammad Al Ghafli, Assistant Undersecretary for FNC Affairs who is also the committee’s rapporteur.
