Children’s drugs recalled by UAE Ministry of Health

Safety warnings prompt government to recall liquid Tylenol from pharmacies.

The UAE Ministry of Health has recalled liquid Tylenol medicines from pharmacies following warnings by US authorities that more than 43 children’s drugs could be unsafe.

A circular sent to all doctors and pharmacists instructed the recall of ‘Tylenol Drops and Suspensions’, according to a statement issued by the UAE’s state news agency WAM.

The ministry said that the drug ‘Zyrtec Allergy Liquid’ meets quality standards and would not be pulled from the shelves in the UAE, as it has in some other markets.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has advised families to stop using more than more than 43 drugs, noting some may contain “tiny particles” while others have too much active ingredients or inactive ingredients that don’t meet specifications. The recall affects all unexpired lots of liquid Tylenol, Motrin, Zyrtec and Benadryl formulated for children. Products have been pulled from the shelves in the US and several other countries.
