Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction, South Korea’s leading power equipment manufacturer, announced today it has won a nearly $4 billion order to provide nuclear reactors to the UAE, AFP reported Thursday.
The order was reportedly placed by KEPCO, the state-run Korea Electric Power Corporation, who last year announced it would lead a consortium of companies in a $20 billion project to build four nuclear reactors in the country by 2020, the report added.
The KEPCO-led consortium for the 2020 project includes Hyundai Engineering and Construction, Samsung C&T Corp, and Doosan Heavy Industries, and will see construction of the first nuclear reactors in the Gulf region.
The Kepco-led team beat consortiums from France, the US and Japan.
