Dubai schools prepare to raise tuition fees for next year

Dubai’s Ministry of Education has approved a fee hike of between 15 and 20 percent for six schools.

Several Dubai schools have been given special approval to raise fees for the 2010-11 academic year, despite an earlier announcement by Dubai’s Knowledge and Human Development Authority that fees would be frozen, the Gulf News reported Friday.

A reported six schools are exempted from the earlier announced fee freeze and have received approval from the Ministry of Education for a 15 to 20 percent tuition hike. The exempted schools were described as special cases, with the Minister of Education explaining that requests for fee rises were considered on an individual bases.

“Some schools need resources to survive and they deserve it because they have made investments on infrastructure, restructured their classrooms and have increased salaries of teachers. The Ministry has taken the decision considering all these facts,” Gulf News quotes the minister as saying.
