Boost for Emirates Group as net profit tops $1 billion

Emirates Airline posted 2009 fiscal year net profits of AED 3.5 billion, or $954 million, up from AED 982 million a year earlier, Zawya reported Wednesday. The balance of net profits was posted by Dnata to give Emirates Group a full year profit for 2009-2010 of $1.1 billion.
The airline posted a 20 percent rise in passenger numbers on the year, the report added.
At a press conference, Emirates’ carrier’s chairman, Sheik Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum credited “cost containment” for the company’s strong financial performance in 2009, Zawya said.
Emirates’ fiscal year ends March 31st.
