Ezdan Real Estate Company’s chairman has donated 605 million shares worth 13.98 billion riyals ($3.8 billion) to an Islamic charity to help build homes for the poor.
Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani, a member of Qatar’s royal family, donated the shares, in the eighth-largest donation made globally over the past decade.
The Islamic endowment will fund the building of 18,000 homes for Qatar’s poor, a company statement said.
Ezdan, which develops malls, residential complexes and schools in Qatar, has a market capitalisation of around 61 billion riyals. ($1=3.638 Qatari riyals) (Reporting by Regan E. Doherty)
