Sentenced by Egyptian courts for alleged terrorist plots, Hizbullah contends that its members convicted in the Security Court in Cairo were actually working to smuggle weapons into the Gaza Strip, according to a report by the BBC Friday.

Egyptian federal prosecutors alleged that the accused were planning terrorist plots, and were also charged with the dissemination of Shia Islamic principles.

Hizbullah leader, Hassan Nasrallah vowed to use “political and diplomatic” means to secure their release, calling the rulings “unjust and politicized,” report added.

Four of the sentenced are at large, having received convictions in absentia, the BBC said.
