Kuwaiti emir ends two-day state visit to Lebanon

Kuwait’s emir declared his country’s ongoing support of Lebanon’s developmental projects.

Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah met with Lebanese politicians and joined Prime Minister Hariri in signing various bilateral agreements Wednesday. During his official two-day state visit to Lebanon that ended Wednesday evening, the emir pledged Kuwait’s ongoing financial support of development projects in Lebanon. The Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, KFAED, signed agreements with Lebanon’s Culture Ministry, and the Council for Development and Reconstruction, the Kuwait Times reports.

Yesterday, Lebanon’s central bank governor, Riad Salameh, underlined the importance of improvements to Lebanon’s infrastructure sectors – particularly water and energy – in order to guarantee sustained economic growth in the country. Lebanon has received hundreds of millions in Kuwaiti aid.

During Sheikh Sabah’s visit, Lebanon’s Speaker Berri highlighted the importance of Kuwait’s ongoing support of the Litani river project, while the Kuwaiti emir expressed hope that deeper bilateral relations between the two countries would serve as a cooperative model for the region, the paper says.
