Lebanon’s gas stations sanctioned for failure to lower prices

Authorities raided large petrol stations in Lebanon’s Bekaa region this week for failure to institute newly lowered gas prices, the Daily Star reported Friday.

Patrols from the country’s Economy Ministry carried out the raids with fines issued at stations in Zahle, Baalbek, Western Bekaa, and Rashia, the report said.

Referral for legal recourse has been ordered, and authorities will reportedly investigate the cases. The sanctioned stations said they were not informed of the new prices, down 800 Lebanese Lira, around $0.53, per 20 litres, the report added.
