Dubai Maritime City, DMC, will act as the new regulatory authority for maritime activities in the emirate, according to a new law issued by Sheikh Maktoum, the Gulf News reported Wednesday. The DMC will provide greater regulatory authority of maritime activities, including licensing of vessels and technical testing to better ensure security, safety, and environmental protections, the report said.
DMC will also provide licensing for pilots and crew members of various marine transport vehicles, and conduct technical tests to ensure that vehicles meet specifications. As the regulatory body in the emirate, the DMC will also put forth rules and regulations related to marine transport activities and licensing. Standards “governing the conduct of due diligence and monitoring and inspection by sea,” are also within their scope of regulatory authority, the Gulf News added.
