Pakistani gunman to be sentenced by Indian court for 2008 Mumbai attacks

The Pakistani man believed to be the lone surviving assailant in the Mumbai attacks that killed 174 is expected to be sentenced in Indian court, the BBC reported Monday.

The attacks of November 2008 were alleged by prosecutors to be part of a plan to undermine India’s economy and create terror, the BBC said.

The 14 month trial included testimony from hundreds of witnesses and seeks the death penalty in connection with the charges against Mohammad Ajmal Amir Qasab, who originally denied the allegations against him, but later admitted his role in a court room outburst, the report said.

Pakistan reportedly denied that the accused was a Pakistani national, but later admitted Mr. Qasab was indeed a citizen.

Two Indian men accused of helping plot the attack, are also expected to be sentenced, the BBC said.
