The cost of the project to produce 1.4 billion cubic feet a day of gas from Qatar’s North Field to meet the growing demand of the country’s domestic market has previously been put at $8.6 billion, making it Qatar’s most expensive energy project since Royal Dutch Shell Plc launched the $19 billion Pearl gas-to-liquids plant in 2006.

The first train is expected to become operational in 2014 and the second in 2015. (Reporting by Daniel Fineren)
