UAE astronomer says he has calculated the start of this year's Holy Month

A UAE astronomer has predicted the date of the Holy Month of Ramadan, reports Emirates Business.

The Holy Month will begin on Wednesday, August 11, according to the astronomer, and Eid-Al-Fitr will fall on Friday, September 10.

Ibrahim Al Jarwan, Astronomy Researcher and Supervisor of Sharjah Planetarium, said the crescent moon of the Holy Month of Ramadan will be astronomically born on Tuesday, August 10, at 7.08am UAE time and will disappear after sunset on the same day, and Wednesday will the first day of Ramadan.

“The crescent moon of Shawwal will be born on Wednesday September 8, at 2.30 am local time, and sink down 14 minutes before sunset. It’s impossible to sight the crescent by naked eye at that day and therefore Friday (September 10) will be the first day of Shawwal,” he said.
