Al Jazeera sport announced it will offer refunds to customers who were overcharged for World Cup viewing cards, or received faulty ones, 7Days reported Wednesday.
Earlier this week, in response to consumer complaints of price gouging on the viewing cards, consumer protection officials asked the Al Jazeera station to publish notices reminding customers of the official cost of the cards, which varied from AED 310 to AED 660 depending on the length of viewing time purchased. Consumers contending they overpaid, may submit proof of purchase and receive a refund, according to the report in 7Days.
Arabic media, reporting the comments of Hashim Al Nuaimi, director of consumer protection at the Ministry of Economy, said that the ministry has received numerous consumer complaints of price gouging, and Al Nuaimi encouraged anyone who had overpaid to return the card vendor with receipt for refund.
