Strict enforcement of Dubai residential housing fees announced

The Dubai municipality announced it will step up fee collections from residential unit occupants in Dubai, Emirates Business reported Monday. The effort is expected to reign in around 300,000 residents currently evading payment, a government official was quoted as saying. All occupants of Dubai’s residential units are required to pay 5 percent of their annual rents in fees.

The efforts are expected to net revenues of between AED 500 and 600 million by the end of next year, an authority at Dubai Municipality was quoted as saying.

“There are around 300,000 units that are DEWA consumers, but are not currently paying the housing fee,” an authority from Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, DEWA, was quoted as saying.
