UK voters head to the polls Thursday
Voters to decide fate of Brown’s Labour Party, amid possibility of hung parliament.
May 6, 2010 12:24 by Rasha Reslan
UK polls open today in the much publicized elections between British Labour, Tories, and Liberal Democrats. Election outcomes include a strong possibility of a hung parliament, whereby no party fills a majority of seats in the Commons, CNN reported today. The UK has not seen a hung parliament in over 35 years.
Gordon Brown’s Labour party has held a prominent position in British government since 1997, although Labour’s fate in this election may be affected by controversial remarks made by the Prime Minister last week, in which Brown referred to an older woman voter as ‘bigoted.”
Polling stations throughout the country are open Thursday, from 7 am to 10 pm local time, CNN said.
