The UAE Ministry of Labor has said that 100,000 workers have received salaries through its Wage Protection System (WPS) during July and August this year. The scheme, which will be officially operational this month, ensures that workers’ salaries are transferred directly to banks without any deductions.

The ministry said that 35 banks out of the 54 in the country have already received licenses for the WPS service from the UAE Central Bank.

    What is the real purpose of WPS anyway? To avoid deductions or to avoid payment delays? our company still pays our salary very late…now add 3-4 more days due to WPS. Great!!!!

    The purpose of the WPS is for the UAE to look like it gives a damn about the rights of the very workers it routinely and systemically exploits.
