The chairman of Dubai-based Emaar Properties, the developer behind the 828 meter Burj Khalifa, Alabbar is the man of the moment. Alabbar, who has been heading Emaar Properties since its inception in 1997, has overseen construction of the $1.5 billion tower since its birth five years ago, working closely with Smith.
“We had a great client and everyone involved was focused on doing their best,” Smith said of Emaar after the inauguration of Burj Khalifa.
A powerful man in Dubai’s real estate industry, Alabbar is also the director general of Dubai’s Department of Economic Development and a member of the Dubai Executive Council.
