In 2008, Abu Dhabi-based Masdar announced that it has chosen Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture to design its headquarters in the eco-friendly Masdar City development. The headquarters will be the “world’s first large-scale, mixed-use positive energy building, producing more energy than it consumes,” Masdar said in a press release. The deal was signed between Sultan al-Jaber, CEO of Masdar and Adrian Smith.
“We’re thrilled to be working on a project of this importance and magnitude. Masdar Headquarters is one of the most significant developments of our time,” Smith said at the time.
Apart from heading Masdar, al-Jaber is also senior projects manager at Mubadala Development Company, and has previously worked with Adnoc and the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing.
