Bahrain economy may grow 3pc in 2009, says central bank governor

The central bank governor of Bahrain’s, Rasheed al-Maraj, said he anticipates the kingdom’s economy to grow by 3 percent in 2009, reports Bloomberg.

“Even 3 percent is a decent number in terms of the global environment,” he said in an interview in Abu Dhabi today. The expected growth rate for 2009 is less than half 2008′s growth rate.

The author reduced the interest rate by a quarter of a percentage in mid-September due to the drop in oil prices. Oil is currently trading at $65.
