The Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Charity Foundation launched the region’s biggest Ramadan food rationing program on Sunday, reports WAM, the UAE’s official news agency. The program is expected to reach over 44,000 families or 300,000 persons throughout the nation.

Mohammed Haji Khoury, the charity’s executive director, and Hussein Al Sheikh executive director of Social Welfare at the Ministry of Social Affairs, announced the program’s launch at a press conference.

”This year’s Ramadan food aid program is the largest one in favor of the target groups since the creation of the country,” Khoury said.

”The food aid program is part of the Foundation’s local humanitarian strategy. It will be executed before the [beginning] of the fasting month,” he added. ”The initiative [...] aims to bring about psychological and material stability of beneficiaries as the sacred month needs more demands.”

Over 15,000 of foodstuff and dry food items will be distributed to 26 centers nationwide.

Ramadan is expected to begin on August 21.
