Chemical Ali sentenced to death, again

Iraqi High Tribunal gives verdict on Ali Hassan al-Majeed, a former official under Saddam Hussein’s regime

The Iraqi High Tribunal sentenced Ali Hassan al-Majeed, a former official under the Saddam Hussein regime, on Sunday to death for his role in the 1988 gas offensive against the Kurds, reports Reuters.

Al-Majeed, better known as “Chemical Ali,” has already been sentenced to death twice, once in June 2007 for his military campaign against the Kurds in 1988, and in December 2008 for crushing a Shi’ite revolt against Saddam’s regime after the first Gulf War in 1991.

Al-Majeed, Saddam Hussein’s cousin, was captured in 2003 following the US invasion of Iraq.
