Dahi Khalfan Tamim

The Dubai police chief, who has caught the world’s attention for his role in probing the murder Hamas leader Mahmoud al-Mabhouh, is predictably connected to a lot of people who matter.

When Tamim was honored with the medals last month, he said that throughout his 40 years of working in Dubai’s police force, his main achievements were “becoming a righteous man, and earning the respect of Sheikh Mohammed and the trust and respect of people.”
Tamim said that when he was made the Dubai police chief, Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid al-Maktoum placed a lot of responsibility on his shoulders.
“When Sheikh Mohammed used to introduce me he would say, ‘This is Colonel Dahi, the youngest police chief in the world.’ I realized that he was trying to convey a message. I sat with myself to review the sign he gave me and decided that I must prove to His Highness that I am worth his trust. I had to answer the question, how should I be?”
Tamim, who accompanies Sheikh Mohammed on many official meetings and conferences, has said that he meets the ruler every day to submit his reports and receive instructions.
