At least 42 people were killed and 224 injured in three attacks in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.
The car bombings on Sunday targeted foreign diplomatic missions, with blasts occurring near the embassies of Iran, Germany and Egypt.
Al Jazeera’s Zeina Khodr, reporting from Baghdad, said the attacks confirmed fears of a possible escalation of violence in the absence of political security; adding “the explosions are a political message and may be a part of the ongoing negotiation process to form the next government”.
