The Dubai International Airport was used by more than 40 million passengers in 2009, a 9.2 percent increase in numbers as compared to 2008, according to Dubai Airports. In December last year, the airport handled 3.8 million passengers, 14.5 percent more than December 2008, the company said.
According to the Airports Council International, only four out of the 50 busiest airports in the world recorded an increase in passenger traffic in 2009, and apart from Dubai, the other airports include Istanbul (6.3 percent), Kuala Lumpur (4.6 percent) and Cairo (1.5 percent).
The Dubai International Airport is expected to see 13.6 percent growth in international passenger traffic in 2010, said Dubai Airports.
