Many passengers on the metro were stuck for four hours on Friday night, because of intermittent train services, reports Gulf News. There were problems between 5 and 9pm, after which services returned to normal. Abdullah Al Madani, CEO of the RTA’s Corporate Technical Support Services Sector told the paper that “A passenger pushed the emergency stop button, which led to delays.”

According to reports, most of the commuters on the metro during the weekend have been joy riders.

I went on Thursday afternoon, and throughly enjoyed the views. The staff need a sharp learning curve, with not allowing red card holders to even enter into the Gold Class cabin, they should stand outside the doors, and guide them into the riight cabins. If a red card holder enters into gold class, he then has to pass through the ladies cabin in order to get through to standard class.
The stewardesses left their handbags in the gold class beside the windows, at the front of the train. This can cause unrest and a security alert for many passengers dont know if this could be a potential bomb threat, let alone for the security it poses for a stolen handbag oportunity.
Wake up Metro staff, get your staff empowered to have authority to let the right people on into the right cabins, and you wont have overcrowding, and wont have people pushing alert buttons by mistake because they were crushed due to overcrowding.
In london, they have a plastic box, which can be broken easily to alert the button, this will save Kids, and illeritarates from pushing this button in the future.
Alll in all, through, the metro is very impressive, but get these carriages right with the right card holders enetering into the correct carriages.

All in all, typical of Dubai’s fast-tracked and short-changed history of development…. No breaks with recent trends, keep smiling !!!

A joy rider is someone who does not pay for the ride
