The emirate was voted the most innovative place in the region by business professionals, a survey by YouGov showed. Approximately 65 percent of almost 2,000 business professionals who took part in the GCC-wide survey voted for Dubai, compared to Abu Dhabi’s 9 percent and Saudi Arabia’s 6 percent.
“Despite the widespread international media drubbing of Dubai, it is still considered by far the most innovative place within the GCC,” said Joanna Longworth, chief marketing officer at YouGov. “There are a great many innovative business and government concepts in action in other cities within the GCC, but Dubai still holds the reputation as the leader in this area.”
The Middle East on a whole, however, is not perceived as an innovative region. Only 2 percent of those surveyed believe the region is the most innovative, compared with 33 percent who voted for Japan, 25 percent for China and 16 percent for the United States.
