Dubai officials have closed a case filed by a British woman who claimed she was raped in the bathroom of The Address Hotel in Dubai Marina.
The woman had said she was sexually attacked by an Indian hotel worker at the hotel on New Year’s Eve. But Attorney General Essam Al Humaidan said the subsequent investigation found that “the incident didn’t happen”, according to government news agency WAM.
Police said CCTV footage has confirmed that the suspect did not enter the bathroom after her.
However, the public prosecution say that the British woman and her partner will themselves stand trail for consuming alcohol at the hotel without the relevant permit.
Another charge of consensual rape against the British couple has been dropped after the pair showed the court a marriage certificate dated November 16 2009.
The British woman and her partner were arrested after reporting the rape, after they admitted to drinking alcohol and sharing a room.
