Dubai is expected to be the second most popular travel destination for young Brits in 2010, according to a report by UK-based STA Travel group. The report says 26 percent of 18 to 35-year-old British travelers are planning to visit the city over the coming decade. “Despite the recent controversy and discussions surrounding Dubai it seems that young people still place it high up on the list as a must-see destination,” the report said.

“Dubai has been growing rapidly over the last three to four years and has everything – the beaches, restaurants, bars, shops, compact size and guarantee of warm weather,” said Chris Norris, STA Travel’s Middle East expert. “No longer just the haunt of the rich and famous, the opening of affordable hotels and the availability of cheap flights mean Dubai is becoming an ideal weekend destination and stopover of choice,” he added.

According to the report, Los Angeles is set to be the top destination for British travelers, with 29 percent planning to go there in the next two years.

I am a British author. There is no doubt Dubai is still a magnet for tourists. It is a beautiful country, with very hospitable people. I lived in Dubai for several years and thoroughly enjoyed my stay. I still tell anyone who wants to know from me – Dubai is a must visit destination. Does your book contain the extremely misleading information on Dubai’s weather, i.e. Dubai has “great weather with sunny skies” throughout the year ?

There is an age old adage that success is the best revenge.

In recent months the British media and press have been savaging Dubai, attacking and vilifying it relentlessly, and the fact that in spite of this the city has proven to be massively successful in attracting British tourists shows success, which is probably a better revenge than all the PR stunts anyone can think of.

The ultimate revenge will come in the next few years, when, hopefuly Dubai’s economy fully recovers from the current crisis and takes its position of pride as a successful free market economy.

SAS, are you working in PR for the Dubai government? The emirate is a giant white elephant that has overcapitalised and been built on debt, abhorrent labour practices and hyperbole.

And have you seen the calibre of the average British tourist Dubai attracts? It is the Benidorm of Arabia.

Considering it was effectively Lanzarote in the past anyway, the general quality of tourists hasn’t gone down that much.

I read the “British Author’s” comment on Dubai……..It is a beautiful country!!!!!!! Hey, he has lived in Dubai for several years and has thouroughly enjoyed his stay there but our respected Mr. Author Does not know whether Dubai is a City or a Country. Actually anyone can make such mistakes but an AUTHOR making it is just not pardonable. One mistake per paragraph…. oops his book is doomed before being published!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for bringing a secretarial error to my attention. It should bear no reflection on the work in print because the book has been properly edited, handled by experts and gone through the Publishers’ process. We all know Dubai is an Emirate and a pleasant destination. Is someone trying to stir a storm in a teacup? I should have have thought the subject worth commenting is how popular Dubai is rather than diverting attention away from the subject on which our reactions are based
