Global crude steel production falls 5.5 percent

Crude steel production across the world fell to 106.5 million tonnes in August, a fall of 5.5 percent as compared to the same period last year, according to figures from the World Steel Association. But the output was above the 103.9 million tonnes in July because of improved orders, reports Reuters.

Production in China, the world’s biggest producer and consumer of steel, increased to 52.3 million tonnes in August, a 22 percent rise as compared to the same period last year, and its highest ever output in a month.
