Indian space scientists confirmed on Sunday they lost contact with an unmanned moon mission on Saturday, reports CNN. The scientists are unsure if they can regain contact with Chandrayaan-I.

Although the orbiter was equipped with what the scientists described as ‘highly-sophisticated gadgets’, the Chandrayaan-I suffered system failures that led to the loss of contact.

“We are trying to revive the contact, but chances are slim,” said S. Satish, a spokesman for the Indian Space Research Organization.

The organization announced previously the Chandrayaan-I would stay in orbit for two years.

“That probably was a mistake because such craft do not have this much life,” Satish added.
