The Iranian industry minister, Ali Akbar Mehrabian, has been found guilty of fraud by the nation’s court, reports Al Jazeera. Mehrabian was convicted for stealing an idea for an “earthquake saferoom” from Farzan Salimi, an Iranian researcher.
The conviction is yet another blow to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s presidency. On Friday he fired intelligence minister Mohseni Ejeie and culture minister Saffar Harandi; and last week, the president fired Esfandiar Rahim Mashaie from his position as senior VP.
Ahmadinejad’s reelection this June sparked widespread protests organized by supporters of opposition leader Mir Hossein Mousavi.
