An Iranian airliner reportedly hit the runway approximately 45 miles per hour faster than the speed limit, reports the AFP.
“This plane should have landed at a maximum speed of 165 miles per hour but it in fact landed at around 200 mph,” acting Iranian Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) director Mohammad Ali Ilkhani told state television.
The plane missed the runway and crashed into a wall, killing 16 people on board and wounding 31 others; 153 passengers were on board the aircraft.
Aria Airlines’s license has been revoked following the crash on Friday.
