Kuwaiti women to get passports without husband’s consent

Married women in Kuwait can now get a passport without getting approval from their husbands, according to a ruling passed by the constitutional court in the country-Kuwait’s highest one. The lawyer for the case, Adel Qurban, told the Associated Press that the decision “freed” Kuwaiti women from the 1962 law which required them to get their husband’s signature to get a passport.

The court ruled that the earlier law was “unconstitutional” and “undermines [a woman's] free will and compromises her humanity.”
