The Lebanese army claims it has foiled a plot to attack soldiers and UN peacekeepers in the country’s southern region, reports the BBC.

The army claims the men were part of “a terrorist network linked to Al Qaeda,” and have been evading capture for some time.

The 10 men have been charged with smuggling insurgents into Lebanon, and planning attacks in Lebanon and in neighboring countries. The men were planning to smuggle fighters out of Ain al-Helweh, the largest Palestinian refugee camp in the nation.

The army claims most of those arrested are not Lebanese.
