Plans for Masdar City, Abu Dhabi’s clean energy community, will be scaled back under a review of the ambitious ‘green’ development.
There will now be fewer buildings, and the structures will be built taller over a longer period of time, according to a report in The National newspaper. Masdar plans to cut costs, and laid off 34 people from its property division this week, accounting for about 20 percent of its staff.
Expected public transport systems linking Masdar to Abu Dhabi island have also been delayed, according to a Masdar City executive quoted by the newspaper. Plans for a futuristic ‘car pod’ system may be scaled back.
