Total passenger traffic on airlines in the Middle East increased 10 percent during 2009, according to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). However, all the other regions in the world recorded negative growth because of the global financial crisis, the ICAO said in a statement.
World airline passenger traffic fell 3.1 percent in 2009 compared to 2008, the largest fall in the history of the aviation industry, the statement said. The industry will see a growth of 3.3 percent next year, it added.
