Old engines could have caused Sharjah plane crash

Engine problems are being investigated as a possible reason for the plane crash in Sharjah that killed six people on Wednesday.”We are mainly thinking the problem was with the engine, but it doesn’t mean that we aren’t looking at other potential causes like the flight control system,” Saif al Suwaidi, the director of the General Civil Aviation Authority, told The National. The cargo plane’s four turbofan engines were at least 24 years old, he said, adding that the remains of one of the engines will be sent abroad for analysis.

Experts from the US, including representatives from Boeing and the National Transportation Safety Board are also helping with the investigation.
