Just days after the euphoria of Qatar’s successful World Cup bid, and thoughts are beginning to turn towards delivery of the tournament.
The most obvious problem – the high summer temperatures in Qatar – will be tackled through carbon neutral air conditioned stadia, with money “thrown” at the problem. Meanwhile public transport for hundreds of thousands in a country with only 1.7 million people will be solved with a “mere” $50 billion.
Critics suggest Qatar simply can’t host a successful tournament, but supporters point out that the event could be a huge opportunity for the Middle East to reinvent its world image.
