Qatar bags the World Cup – what next?
To the chagrin of a few and the shock of many, this weekend Qatar was confirmed as host country for the FIFA World Cup – one of the biggest sports tournaments on the planet.

Just days after the euphoria of Qatar’s successful World Cup bid, and thoughts are beginning to turn towards delivery of the tournament.
The most obvious problem – the high summer temperatures in Qatar – will be tackled through carbon neutral air conditioned stadia, with money “thrown” at the problem. Meanwhile public transport for hundreds of thousands in a country with only 1.7 million people will be solved with a “mere” $50 billion.
Critics suggest Qatar simply can’t host a successful tournament, but supporters point out that the event could be a huge opportunity for the Middle East to reinvent its world image.
