The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has purchased 518 buses from VDL, a Holland-based company, for AED1.9 billion to transport passengers to and from the Dubai Metro. The contract includes an eight-year maintenance agreement with VDL.
The RTA hopes over 30 percent of the emirate’s population will use the metro.
The metro’s red line, running from Jebel Ali to Rashidiya, will be completed in September 2009.
