The Licensing Agency at Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) issued 167,261 driving licenses in Dubai during 2009, the body said on Tuesday. The licenses were issued for vehicles belonging to seven categories including 131,690 licenses for light vehicles, 15,473 for heavy vehicles and 3,357 for motorcycles, the RTA said.
“These statistics clearly indicate that the number of applications is on the rise and so are the clearance rates of tested drivers compared to what we had in the past,” Sultan Abdullah al-Marzooki, director of Driving Licensing Department at RTA Licensing Agency said in a release. “This increase is attributed to the rise in the number of examiners to cover the rising numbers of examinees on the one hand and to give them ample testing time on the other,” he said.
All the examiners have been trained according to “the highest international specifications and criteria in this regard,” he added.
The RTA is also developing software for a new system under which an examinee will be able to get the testing appointment through e-services, he said.
