An Iranian woman in her 20s was arrested in Al Zahra hospital last week after she confessed that her newborn baby is illegitimate, reports Gulf News.
“The woman paid AED5,000 to the hospital as delivery charges,” police said. Soon after the baby’s birth, the hospital contacted police to inform them that an unmarried woman gave birth to a baby on their premises.
The police said the hospital should have informed them immediately. “They should not accept such cases of unmarried pregnant women,” police said.
“She was in labor so she was admitted immediately to the operation room,” a hospital spokesman explained. He said there was no time to inform police.
The woman was taken to Al Qasimi hospital last week and later transferred to a jail in Sharjah.
The case has been referred to the public prosecutor for further investigation.
