    What about those who already renewed the tenancy agreement starting Jan 2009, will they get the refund of the increase? If the answer is to take this issue with the Dubai Rent Committee, it’s a waste of time!! I believe that such an instruction should be published in December, as many Landlords are taking advantage.

    they dont care if you renewed your contract now, as long as they get away with it…….
    this wont last, then we will see who laughs last…

    What about Sharjah? Can Sharjah Govt also pass a similiar law please. Where is the Dubai’s new rental index by RERA. How can we see it? Again it will result in confusion and negotiation etc as I beleive it will not give a 100% clear rent structure.

    You need to read the law for what it says: all those who rented their flats before 2007, i.e. the vast majority of Dubai population, can (and knowing the situation here will) have their rents increased to the level of 2008 – the highest in Dubai history. All this at the time when not only salaries get cut, but people are struggling to keep their jobs. Is leaving Dubai really the only option?
