The doors to the America’s famed Statue of Liberty’s reopened to the public on July 4, the nation’s Independence Day, after nearly eight years of being closed, reports the LA Times. Authorities closed access to the crown after the September 11, 2001 attacks on the United States.
The statue’s base, pedestal and outdoor observation deck were reopened in 2004, but the crown remained closed.
